Editors Blogs - The Prompt Corner

 My Dear Readers,

A new day is dawning for The Connecticut Callboard website.  I have been long thinking that the present structure of the website has been far too difficult for users to manage quickly and efficiently.  Unfortunately, some of the best features of JOOMLA! (Which is the framework for the website), are some of it's worst drawbacks too.  The website is designed to be a content management system, which manages information in "articles", much like a blog or a news site would.  Jerry-rigging the thing to be event driven, as I attempted, works to a certain extent, but has always left me wanting more.

Recently, a friend of the website, named Brad B., suggested that users be able to search by category or by town/region.  This has always been one of my dreams to implement, but I just wasn't sure it was needed that much to warrant the time spent implementing an event-driven system that would allow for advanced searching like that.  Well Brad, since you asked, I guess I should get off my duff and do it, right?

Well... done and done.

Registered Authors will now notice the interface has changed, using a simplified form for entry of your event listings.  There is a very easy means to supplement your listings with graphics as well.  Authors will also see they can look up their listings right from the Author Menu, rather than go searching for them.  This makes editing easier, which by the way, you'll be able to do now.  That way if you post something in error, it's easier for you to fix.

Best of all, your listings do NOT need to be pre-approved!  Once you post a listing, it becomes immediately live.  Of course, I do reserve the right to take down a listing if it is abusive or I deem it to fall outside of my terms of service.

As the old listings expire, they will eventually all go away, and the new listings will start appearing under the new "Theatrical Event Listings" menu selection.
